Assistant Chief Engineer – KOCO TV KOCO TV, the ABC affiliate in Oklahoma City, OK, is looking for an Assistant Chief Engineer. The ideal candidate will organize, plan, manage, document, and execute assignments within a demanding live broadcast environment. This person is responsible for the equipment that provides the content of our broadcast and online program streams, monitoring multiple channels, maintaining regulatory compliance, and assuring quality control of on‑air product. This position reports directly to the Chief Engineer and involves supervisory roles. The candidate must excel in motivating a high‑energy team and demonstrate success in budgeting, capital planning, and personnel management. Job Responsibilities Assist the Chief Engineer with the supervision of the daily operation of the station. Manage and oversee broadcast operations staff and maintenance technicians (Master Control Operators, Studio Production Operators, and other technical staff). Motivate the department to ensure smooth and efficient operations and high-quality production. Deploy and train personnel on new and existing equipment/technology/procedures, including the station’s automation system, live newscast production, and digital workflows. Maintain transmitters, satellite antenna systems, signal distribution, encoders, and routing systems. Apply knowledge of television maintenance, IT systems, FCC requirements, and licensing. Document and maintain engineering and operational policies and procedures. Adapt to multiple priorities and follow through until resolution. Handle complex issues under pressure or during emergency situations. Attend in person as required and be available for weekends and after‑hours on‑call duty. Requirements 5 years of experience in television broadcast operations/maintenance. Previous leadership and management experience. Budgeting and capital planning. Computer literacy is mandatory. Attention to detail is imperative. SBE certifications are a plus. Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform equipment installation and maintenance. Current driver’s license. Operational knowledge of SNG, ENG, and CNG functions. Ability to learn specialized software applications. Aptitude for operating electronic equipment for broadcast and production requirements. Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar for system design and documentation is a plus. Hearst Television supports military veterans; related training and experience will be considered.
