Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.Role SummaryWe are seeking a talented and driven Systems Engineer focusing on the development of advanced vehicle access systems, to join our body controls systems team. In this role, you will drive the design, development, and validation of vehicle access systems, ensuring they meet functionality, security, and compliance requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle access system architectures. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions that enhance the user experience and align with our commitment to innovation and quality.ResponsibilitiesDefine and document vehicle, subsystem and component requirements & attributes for: vehicle access features, vehicle control systems, & internally developed controller components, throughout the development lifecycleGuide feature-level requirement decomposition & traceability into all respective subsystemsSupport feature verification test case definition & ensure traceability to all respective requirementsEnsure requirement traceability through the development lifecycleEnsure vehicle quality through functional analysis using hierarchical DFMEA and/or STPAEnsure vehicle access system compliance to appropriate automotive standards (Thatcham, CCC, homologation, etc.)Interface with cross-functional stakeholdersContribute towards electrical architecture decisionsCompose state, sequence, activity and/or flow diagrams (SysML)Support troubleshooting issues found during integration, manufacturing, and serviceQualificationsMinimum of Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related fieldMinimum of 4 years of experience with systems design and integrationExperience with definition and decomposition of vehicle access systems (e.g., smart keys, passive entry/start, remote access, etc.)Requirement management tool experience (such as Jama, Polarion, or DOORS)Ability to work in a fast-paced development environmentSelf-motivated: Demonstrated ability to set direction and guide a team towards itStrong technical communication skillsPreferred experience:Experience with CCC (Car Connectivity Consortium) Digital key standard definition and decompositionExperience in areas like NFC, Bluetooth LE, UWB, secure element technology, and cryptography.Hands-on experience with subsystem verification and testing automation (HIL environments)Experience with DFMEA/STPA and associated toolsExperience with root cause analysis (5W, 8D, etc) and issue resolutionProficiency in reading and understanding code (C/C++, Python)Familiarity with Git and common Git workflows (e.g., branching, merging, pull requests)Pay DisclosureSalary Range/Hourly Rate for Palo Alto, California Based Applicants: $146,900 to 183,600 USD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Salary Range/Hourly Rate for British Columbia Based Applicants: $108,200 - $135,300 CAD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Benefits SummaryRivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26.
