The Overhead Door Tech position is responsible for performing overhead door repair, installation and general labor work along with assisting craftsmen in performing their tasks in the maintenance and fabrication shop. This position must apply sound judgement and understanding when carrying out detailed or uninvolved written and/or oral instructions.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Ensure a safe work environment
  • Must work in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Assembles and repairs oilfield overhead doors, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assists in civil and mechanical construction, excavation/trenching, backfill/compacting, raking, shoveling, cleaning, and organizing material during down time
  • Bolts or nails together wood or steel
  • Assist in loading and unloading material and equipment for mobilization
  • Work with skill saw, hammers, plumbing tools, power washer, manlifts, and other general construction tools.
  • Job may require overnight travel or working away from home office for extended periods of time.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to use a band saw, mag drill, grinder, hand-held portable drill, read a tape measure, and other applicable hand tools/power for OVH door installation.
  • Knowledgeable of working off/with scaffolding and Fall Protection.
  • Knowledge of load securement, working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety manuals and warning signs, drawings, specifications, rigging diagrams and lifting capacity charts for equipment and load carrying.
  • Skilled in sufficient oral communication to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and tasks.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in Overhead Door installation and maintenance.
  • Experience in Overhead Door repair and troubleshooting.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Minimum 2 years' working experience in some form of construction or labor is required.
  • Manlift, Scissor Lift Certified.
  • NSTC
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) year related construction experience is preferred.
  • Some positions may require minimal heavy equipment (Skid Steer, 966 loaders,) experience.
  • 24-hour Hazwoper Certified.
Work Environment:

  • Position may involve exposure to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors.
  • All North Slope assigned positions are on-call 24 hours/day while on shift or assigned temporarily to another project. Flexibility regarding hours of work is required as needed to meet demands of the job. Position may be recalled at any time during spill emergencies.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
Physical Requirements:

A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet. Shoveling up to 20 lbs. Frequent walking and standing. Occasional keyboard use, sitting, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from waist level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurement will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
