Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist – Hematology. In this role, the successful candidate will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures, including specimen processing and handling, patient specimen testing, result calculation and reporting, quality control, instrument operation and maintenance, and equipment upkeep. Job Responsibilities Performs laboratory tests and procedures. Follows approved policies and procedures for specific methodologies and instrument operations, and records and reports results per policy. Performs and documents procedures to ensure quality of testing, including quality control, instrument preventative maintenance, function checks, and calibration. Follow approved guidelines when troubleshooting and take appropriate action when control values and/or instrument function checks are invalid or inconsistent. Review patient results prior to release to the electronic medical record, correlate final results with known facts, and identify or reject illogical results. Communicate critical values and barriers to testing to medical staff according to protocol and document per laboratory policy. Complete assigned proficiency and competency assessments. Maintain sufficient testing supplies in the work area, including ordering if directed by lead. Consistently generate and review pending logs. Enter Patient Safety Intelligence (PSI) as required. Participate in training new medical technologists/residents at the direction of seniors and lead technologists. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications To qualify, you must have a NYSDOH license as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist and a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a NYS Department of Education–registered program, or a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or physical sciences from an accredited college or university, or meet NYSOP grandfathered educational requirements. One year of experience in a clinical laboratory (internship at a qualified institution acceptable) and NYS license required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills required. Required Licenses CliniclLabTechnolgst-NYSPermit, Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS Preferred Qualifications ASCP Certified. Excellent computer knowledge/skill.
