Summary Under general supervision, performs Histology and Immunohistochemistry procedures and techniques in preparation for examination by the Pathologist. Fully skilled in all histology techniques, which include embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping. Fully skilled in grossing pathology specimens. Typically reports to Anatomic Pathology Manager with clinical oversight by the pathologist. Essential Functions Receives surgical specimens, logs these accession, assigns accession number, enters specimen data, checks for errors and reports discrepancies. Demonstrates full competency in embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping. Prepares, performs, and troubleshoots special stain solutions. Performs grossing techniques and submits Pathology specimens utilizing departmental templates in conjunction with the Dictaphone system. Performs advanced and specialized Histology and Immunohistochemistry techniques. Performs, evaluates and records established quality control and quality assurance procedures, documents corrective actions. Assists the Anatomic Pathology Manager in administrative requirements such as procedure writing. Trains new personnel in Histology procedures and techniques. Operates, maintains and documents maintenance of specialized equipment. Practices all safety measures utilizing proper PPE. Maintains an uncluttered and disinfected work area. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures. Non-Essential Functions Performs other duties as needed; any other duties performed which are not listed above are considered non‑essential functions. Minimum Requirements Education: Associates degree (AS), certified Histotechnician (HT) through the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or equivalent. Skills and Experience Two years of experience in grossing and 24 credit hours in Science or Medical Technology. Ability to perform accurate, reliable, high‑level work quickly and under pressure. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing. Good hand‑eye coordination and ability to work with delicate instruments and automated equipment. Working Conditions Busy lab environment with frequent deadlines and interruptions. Hourly Range and Benefits The hourly range for this role is $33.95 to $49.44 per hour based on full‑time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. Benefits Up to 8% company retirement contribution Generous Paid Time Off 10 paid holidays Paid professional development Competitive health and welfare benefit package.
