Electrical Engineer - Design Studies At Electrical Consultants, Inc. this role focuses on high‑voltage (EHV) technical design studies, including power cable, capacitor, transformer and switching analyses. The engineer will conduct detailed EMT simulations, prepare reports and guide junior staff. Responsibilities Shunt reactive compensation and voltage control Coupled line resonance studies Single pole automatic reclosing sizing and stability checks Series capacitor sizing Line switching over‑voltage analyses (with/without breaker P&IRs) Line insulation coordination and clearance recommendations Breaker TRV/RRRV load‑flow sizing Line or sub‑station MAD calculations Coupling to adjacent circuits in ROW Voltage/current unbalance and transposition studies Transformer energization TOV studies in HV/EHV systems EHV capacitor switching analysis and TLI/PIR sizing Techno‑economic conductor selection EHV power cable EMT studies (riser design, grounding, cross‑bonding, SVL sizing) EMT analysis of risers and grounding for major transmission lines Qualifications Minimum requirements: MSEE (PhD desirable); 15+ years performing the studies above. Expert user of PSCAD; knowledge of PSCAD/EMTP‑RV a plus. Positive‑sequence/phasor domain tool proficiency. Professional engineer license preferred. Work Arrangement Typical arrangement is hybrid or remote. Preferred locations: Madison, WI or Chesapeake, VA. Occasional travel and client background checks required.
