The RN Clinical Educator will be responsible for overall clinical education of Capital Caring Health employees regarding educational competencies, compliance, orientation, and research education as applicable. This position requires the knowledge and skills of professional nursing theory and practice; the principles of adult teaching/learning and the educational process; and effective interpersonal relationship skills. Knowledge and acceptance of the mission, vision, and core values, and policies of Capital Caring Health are essential.
Quality Provision of Services:
Utilizes knowledge of the educational process to assure that quality education based on adult principles of learning is developed and implemented. Assist with development and coordination of Educational Programs
Utilizes previous program evaluations and requirements of accrediting agencies to plan appropriate programs for all levels of nursing personnel.
Supervises learners in a classroom experience, as well as in their earlier clinical orientation days.
Establishes appropriate and realistic goals for professional growth based upon an assessment of own strengths and weaknesses. Conducts educational programs based on both formal and informal needs assessments of the target audience. Conducts programs that incorporate adult/teaching/learning principles. Utilizes a lesson plan based upon measurable behavioral objectives, teaches a class in an organized manner and within the announced time limit, and utilizes appropriate instructional material to supplement the learning activity. Utilizes recognized evaluation methodologies appropriate to the learning activity, i.e. (pre and posttest, objective and valid written program evaluations, and return demonstrations) Helps find information for staff that can support patient and family education. Functions as an educational expert in the development and implementation of educational programs for specifically assigned, reoccurring programs. Has primary responsibility for the application of the educational process (i.e., assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs) to meet identified staff learning needs that occur in the areas of orientation, competencies, multi-skill worker training, and the introduction of new policies, procedures, or equipment.

Maintains clinical practice knowledge Participates in professional organizations. Conducts educational offerings in the community per request of outside groups/agencies. Remains knowledgeable of standards and activities of national and local nursing professional organizations related to Staff Development and Continuing Education. Participates in Compliance and Performance Improvement. Helps with education and training as well as is a resource to staff regarding established and new policies and protocols of Capital Caring Health.
People/Communications:
Provides leadership in the orientation process. Consults with others in areas of educational and clinical expertise. Uses formal and informal feedback as well as practice standards, policies, Quality Improvement data, and goals to revise the content of educational activities. Works with other Capital Caring Health leaders and content experts to plan educational programming consistent with clinical outcomes and the patient care delivery model utilizing the philosophy and objectives of Capital Caring Health as a framework for the purpose of Practice Improvement and Excellence. Plans educational activities in collaboration with the appropriate leaders based on the information, the targeted audience, and the presentation method to ensure no conflicts with other priorities. Communicates with clinical leaders to ascertain educational needs for staff.
Financial Stewardship:
Creatively designs educational programs which are cost-effective and result in
practice changes.
Selects appropriate facilities, supplies, and equipment for educational programs.
Experience Requirements
The RN Clinical Educator must have at least 3 years of clinical experience. Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred. Advanced Illness and hospice care experience are strongly preferred.
Education Requirements:
The RN Clinical Educator must have at least a BSN. A Master's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred.
Required Certificates and/or Licenses:
The RN must have licensure from the governing body for practice for the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia, based on the state/jurisdiction of practice; or licensure from compact state.
Overall Skills:
The ability to connect with staff; demonstrate superlative oral and written communication skills; an ability to organize and manage projects within a defined time frame and budget; work both independently and as part of a team; be creative and engaging with education/training; manage multiple tasks and stressful situations with a positive attitude; demonstrate a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Physical/Mental/Emotional Skills:
The ability to demonstrate personal maturity, emotional stability, and physical energy appropriate to Capital Caring Health's needs. The ability to see, hear, grasp, lift, speak, sit and walk or otherwise perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations; Work in a fast paced and quickly changing environment; Work under pressure and deadlines; Effectively recognize and appreciate the diversity in the workplace.
Technological Skills:
The ability to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office. The ability to quickly learn a learning management system and any other hardware or software utilized by the organization.
Reasoning Ability:
The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Utilize critical thinking to support and assist staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; bend, stoop, and reach; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; demonstrate manual dexterity to operate medical devices/equipment to operate keyboards, laptops, and phones, should be able to taste or smell; and push, pull, lift/carry 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
