Senior Diagnostic Medical Sonographer II, San Diego, 21 Hrs, Day Join to apply for the Senior Diagnostic Medical Sonographer II, San Diego, 21 Hrs, Day role at Kaiser Permanente Job Summary Under indirect supervision, performs a variety of diagnostic medical sonograms (such as abdominal and OB/Gynecology ultrasound examinations) utilizing complex ultrasound equipment and transducers. Responsibilities Customer Service: is responsive to the needs of others by maintaining a professional behavior toward members and coworkers and creating a positive image for the department, as demonstrated by: Willingness to take the initiative to resolve member issues. Handling a high number of member contacts. Dealing with customer complaints in a positive way. Treating coworkers with respect and appreciation. Fostering teamwork and thinking positively. Identifies the impact of cultural diversity and lifestyle choices on patient condition and makes accommodations for such differences. Demonstrates competency and understands the overall operational functions of the department to include all reception duties and cashier functions. Observes regional radiation and department safety policies. Age Specific Criteria: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Periatric. Adjusts technical factors relative to the requirements of the study and the physical maturation of the patient. Modifies patient positioning techniques relative to the patients physical and cognitive abilities. Always takes special care in handling, positioning and/or restraining infants and geriatric patients to avoid injury or excessive radiation exposure. Demonstrates competence in scheduling patient appointments by telephone, mail, or in person utilizing OPAS. Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment (real-time and mobile) to obtain quality diagnostic images. Consistently selects correct technical factors and transducers in accordance with department protocols and patient body habitus. Processes hard copy images properly, utilizing automated equipment. Follows infection control techniques relative to ultrasound imaging. Routinely manipulates transducers to obtain desired images and exercises good clinical judgment. Consults with the radiologist or other clinician for purposes of clarifying orders and selects appropriate views. Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive and accurate manner. Leadership: Provides effective functional direction to assigned staff and assigns work to staff to ensure exams are performed in a timely manner. Routinely provides feedback to management regarding operational problems and personnel issues. Maintains positive interdepartmental relationships and communicates effectively with other departments. Observes all applicable regional, medical center, and department policies and procedures. Essential Responsibilities Customer Service: see above. Schedules patient appointments and operates imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images. Documentation: patient history relative to prior surgery, childbirth and other conditions affecting ultrasound images. Interdepartmental communication and collaboration. Experience / Qualifications Education: Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited ultrasound program or a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program with two (2) years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a major medical center. High School Diploma or GED required. Licenses/Certifications: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Breast Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire Preferred: Three (3) years experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a major medical center. Experience with Acuson Sequoia, Philips iu-22 and Clickview ultrasound reporting package (preferred). Additional competency in listed ultrasound components and procedures. Notes North County senior to include 2 days as senior and one day as a sonographer; subject to change based on department needs. Shifts, hours, and/or locations may vary based on operational need. Scheduled work hours per week will be 20-32.
