Details:
Our Head Custodians are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the designated school building and grounds, while following necessary standards as directed by the immediate supervisor(s). The position will also be involved in the training and supervision of full and/or part time Custodians at the designated school location. Some responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assists in the scheduling as well as supervision of Custodial staff at the designated school locations. Supervision may include assisting with training, performance evaluations, and discipline of staff.
- Assists in the interviewing and selection process of new custodial staff.
- Aids in the planning and overseeing of maintenance and repair work, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Maintains a standard inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and school equipment for the designated school location, and ensures Safety Data Sheets are properly maintained following the direction of the Facilities and Grounds Director.
- Maintains the building and its premises to be neat, clean, and safe at all times. This includes but is not limited to shoveling, sanding, and/or plowing driveways, sidewalks, and building entrances.
- Cleans and disposes of chemical spills, and biohazardous waste while utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment and following protocols.
- Ensures regulation of heat and ventilation systems to provide efficiency and economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Inspects exit doors daily to ensure they are open and panic bolts are working properly.
- Monitors sewer systems, school pool areas (if applicable) and other equipment to ensure proper function.
- Makes recommendations to the Facilities and Grounds Director regarding building projects, such as remodeling and construction needs.
- This position will at times operate genie lifts, small and similar equipment to ensure adequate cleaning or maintenance of hard to reach areas.
- Physical presence at the workplace is an essential function of the job.

- Associate's Degree or Technical Degree in mechanics, engineering, repair, or related field; or equivalent years of experience in maintenance/repair and janitorial.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an assistant management position or related responsibility.
- Active 1st Class "C" Boiler's license through Minnesota Department of Labor or ability to obtain one under a mutually agreed upon timeline with the district and union.
- 5 or more years of experience in an assistant manager role, or related responsibility.
- Direct work experience in school maintenance and/or custodial responsibilities.
