Join to apply for the Staff Psychologist role at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Pay Range: $104,219.00/yr - $193,106.00/yr (based on skills and experience). Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP). Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements, submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment, and may be offered up to $200,000 over one to five years. The award amount and eligibility period are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the application. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements Citizenship Citizen of the United States Education The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program (or Canadian Psychological Association) completed at the time of graduation. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. Alternatively, have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and complete a re‑specialization program (including an approved internship) in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program, with the specialty retuned consistent with the assignment. Or have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally‑accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature, and complete a professional psychology internship program accredited by APA or CPA at the time of completion. Or have a new VHA psychology internship program in the process of applying for APA accreditation that was sanctioned by VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time of internship. Or a one‑year pre‑doctoral internship approved by VHA prior to PL 96‑151 (pre‑1979). Or an unaccredited internship, provided the individual is currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment. Licensure Applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Exception: Non‑licensed applicants who otherwise meet all eligibility requirements may receive a temporary appointment as a "graduate psychologist" at GS‑11 or GS‑12 under 38 U.S.C. 7405(c)(2)(B) for up to two years, pending licensure. Failure to obtain licensure during that period may result in termination. Board Certification Persons hired with an unaccredited internship must be board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment. The board certificate must be current, and the applicant must comply with the certifying body’s continuing education requirements. Grandfathering Provision All persons employed in the VHA as a psychologist on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series, and grade held. GRADE DETERMINATIONS GS‑11 Graduate Psychologist Experience: None beyond the basic requirements. GS‑12 Graduate Psychologist Experience: At least one year of creditable experience as a professional (post‑doctoral) psychologist equivalent to GS‑11, plus demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities, including treatment design, new clinical procedures, and basic research activities. GS‑13 Staff Psychologist Experience: At least two years of professional (post‑doctoral) psychologist experience with at least one year at GS‑12 level, plus advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities in treatment, consultation, clinical research literature, and professional advice. Physical Requirements Light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying, reaching above shoulder, hearing (aid permitted), emotional stability. Capable of prolonged movement and reading patient records/reports in the CPRS system. Clear and efficient communication in English. Duties *This position will be served at the Santa Maria location.* Duties include - but are not limited to: Providing assessments and treatments related to a variety of behavioral health problems, including tobacco use, sleep problems, weight management, chronic illness, treatment/medication adherence, and adjustment issues or life stressors. Practicing using a wide variety of treatment modalities with an emphasis on Evidence Base Practices (EBPs) such as CBT, CPT, PE, ACT, ICT, MI, CBTI, and/or Mindfulness. Complying with all CPRS documentation procedures, including timeliness standards and proper patient check‑out procedures. Attending and participating in administrative and informational meetings held by the Clinical Service, Facility Service Line Director, and Facility Director. Functioning within multidisciplinary teams (psychiatry, social work, nursing, primary care) and actively participating in treatment, teaching, supervision, and administrative functions as needed by the organization. Applying knowledge and experience working with a broad range of mental health disorders, including PTSD, anxiety‑related disorders, mood‑related disorders, substance use disorders, and other mental health conditions, in person and/or via clinical video telehealth (CVT).
