Youth Apprentice- Resistance Welder

Description Flexible part time hours for students during these shift times. Youth apprentice or dual enrollment students encouraged to apply JOB SUMMARY: Operates resistance welder to join metal parts by a series of spot or continuous weld seams in accordance with dimensional specifications on repetitive work where operations and procedures are standardized. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Runs production spot and seam welds (not including welds requiring X-Ray or RWA type resistance weld samples). Visually inspects production welds. Determines when welding conditions have sufficiently changed to require the attention of a Level 2 or 3 Resistance Welder. Loads pre-established weld schedules and electrodes. Prepares sample coupons for evaluation. Dresses and changes electrodes and seam wheels. Regulates current input and water cooling valves. Follows frequency test requirements for coupons and pull tests. Works from drawings, sketches, routings, and welding instructions. Utilizes process control charts to report variations in processes. Proceeds under frequent supervision and direction. Instructions and guidance given on new work, variations, and operating difficulties. In coordination with Maintenance Department, monitors preventive maintenance on resistance welding equipment. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of and conformity to Ace Precision Quality System Work Instruction requirements that govern resistance welding operations. Maintains or exceeds production standards through organization and planning. Follows and complies with safety rules, regulations, and work instructions. Accurately completes all required documentation. Meets attendance policy requirements. Contributes to team effort by assisting in areas as needed. Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months related experience and/or training to become proficient with procedures, work methods, and requirements for welding quality and quantity; or equivalent combination of education and experience. To perform this job successfully, the individual must pass a Level 1 resistance welding test and have at least 40 documented mentoring hours. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, in English, and interpret documents such as specifications, process control sheets, routings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply shop mathematics, interpret fairly complicated drawings, specifications, and formulas, and demonstrate competence in the use of precision measuring equipment. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
