Sr Manager, Applied Science, Healthcare AI – Amazon Web Services (AWS) Join us to lead science and data teams working on AI‑powered healthcare solutions that improve patient care and enhance operational efficiency. Job Overview The Healthcare AI organization at AWS seeks a Sr. Manager of Applied Science to develop innovative products leveraging generative and agentic AI. You will lead teams of applied scientists and medical clinicians to build new products and services from the ground up, working at the forefront of applied AI/ML and distributed systems. Our team serves major providers and payers in the U.S., addressing complex challenges in clinical documentation, health data analytics, and accurate billing to deliver better health outcomes. Key Responsibilities Build and mentor teams of Applied Scientists, ML Engineers, and Medical Clinicians. Set technical direction and research strategy aligned with business goals. Drive innovation in medical administration reasoning systems, AI agent design, and medical coding. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate research into production. Manage project portfolios and resource allocation. Qualifications Basic Qualifications PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. 7+ years in applied research, with 3+ years of people‑management experience. Track record of leading successful research projects and delivering business impact. Strong publication record in top‑tier conferences/journals (e.g., CVPR, NeurIPS, ICML). Experience managing technical teams in computer vision, ML, or AI. Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts to various audiences. Experience with research program management and setting technical strategy. Preferred Qualifications Experience designing and implementing healthcare AI systems. Experience in AI agent architecture design, including decision‑making frameworks and behavioral modeling. Experience with medical coding, medical NLPs, and medical informatics. Experience implementing reinforcement learning for autonomous agent behavior. Experience in professional software development.
