Job Title:              CNC Programmer

POSITION SUMMARY: The CNC Programmer will be responsible for creating and documenting an efficient and accurate CNC machining process to meet internal and customer requirements.  The position will perform various Engineering tasks which include process improvements, CNC programming for Mills and Lathes, machine operation, machine troubleshooting, and machine set up. The position will also be responsible for identifying tooling, gauging, and fixturing requirements for manufacturing and inspecting parts to specifications along with insuring tools are maintained using our Tooling Management Company.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the CNC Programmer include the following job duties.  The responsibilities are not limited to these tasks.

 

  • Review customer and internal drawings to fully understand the requirements and tolerances associated with each necessary component to create a proper machining approach
  • Design all necessary tooling, fixturing and gauging in AutoCad, ESPRIT, Fusion 360 and others to achieve part print specifications
  • Follow PPAP(First Article) on parts to meet drawing specifications
  • Create CNC programs and Job Instruction Sheets(JIS) for Multi-Axis Mills and Lathes
  • Develop and Evaluate part processes (Routing & Programming) for possible improvement
  • Manage Windchill CN’s for BOM changes
  • Manage MFG/PRO to update Part Routings
  • Manage process improvement projects
  • Troubleshoot CNC equipment for programs, tooling, work holding, gauging
  • Support CNC programs for shop floor production personnel
  • Follow all safety requirements; demonstrate working knowledge and safe operation of equipment and machines
  • Follow all ISO procedures and safety rules, including wearing personal safety equipment
  • Self-motivated and flexible; willing to shift priorities as needed.
  • Able to work in a team environment; good interpersonal and communication skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed, environment, follow standardized work and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Fluent in the use of CAD/CAM software(ESPRIT, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, and others)
  • Ability to manually write/edit CNC programs
  • Understanding of tooling and proper selection of tool based on part features
  • Understanding of GD & T and its application to part inspection
  • Understanding of gauges and there proper use
  • Ability to setup, operate, and training other operators

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of CNC Milling Programmer required
  • Degree in Engineering or technical vocational school preferred
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Microsoft Office

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, gages, memos, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively share information about job duties in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisor, customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. 
  • Ability to perform these operations using all units of measure. 
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as proportions and percentages. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 
  • Ability to use a standard calculator.

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear OSHA approved safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toe safety shoes.  Gloves are required to be worn when handling or moving parts. OSHA approved hearing protection (ANSI approved ear plugs) is required when on the shop floor.

 

  • Hazard communication, fire safety, Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE), & detailed JSA training will be reviewed before any job assignment. 
  • The JSA describes identified hazards and what protection the employee must take to protect himself from injury.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, to machining oils/coolants from handling coated tools and containers, and to coolant/oil mists which are below OSHA’s permissible levels of exposure.
  • Since it is a manufacturing environment, the noise level is usually loud due to the different machinery being operated (i.e. forklifts, hand tools, machines in other departments) and the testing that occurs.  Normal noise exposure in the area ranges from 80-90 d BA, depending upon what area in the plant the employee is working.
