Child Development Teacher Aide – Intermittent (South East Early Head Start) Office: Laurel, MD. Salary range: USD $15.00–22.50 per hour. (Current hiring incentive: $750). The Child Development Teacher Aide will provide floating support to classroom teachers by assisting with instruction and clerical tasks, working with students who need additional instruction, preparing materials and equipment for activities, and contributing to discussions on students' progress with their teacher at the Early Head Start (EHS) center. The incumbent ensures a safe, clean, and comfortable childcare space that is conducive to quality parent/child interactions and exceptional educational experiences. Responsibilities Assist the Child Development Teacher (CD Teacher) with interacting and engaging children through play, age‑appropriate activities, and modeling. Participate and assist in implementing parent‑child attachment interventions (e.g., “A Good Goodbye”, Family Tradition Groups, etc.). Assist with meal prep, laundry, and the breakfast count for assigned children at the center. Plan and implement daily parent/child activities for the assigned classroom. Assist teaching team members as needed with various child‑care tasks. Conduct weekly observations on assigned children using the Teaching Strategies Gold online tool under the supervision of the CD Teacher. Meet with the CD Teacher/Child Development Teacher Mentor for weekly planning and discussion about children, families, classrooms, and quality of instruction and engagement. Assist in stocking and maintaining organization of supplies within the center. Prepare and update bulletin boards. Clean, organize, and maintain materials/equipment, child‑development rooms, shared spaces, and the playground. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry a minimum weight of 25 pounds and carry small children as necessary. Must be able to bend, squat, and work with child‑sized spaces. Qualifications Must be 18 years old or older. Must obtain a 90‑hour Early Childhood Education Certificate within 3 months of employment and maintain certification. Must obtain a 45‑hour Infant Toddler Certificate within 6 months of employment and maintain certification. Must obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within 12 months of employment and maintain credential. Must possess and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification. Education High School Diploma or GED required. Experience Minimum of one year supervised classroom experience working directly with children ages birth to three years old (preferred). Daycare experience preferred.
