This person will be responsible for aiding career development, motivating and monitoring engineers, working with engineering leads to evaluate an engineer’s performance, providing coaching and counseling as needed.The Storage Systems Team focuses on supporting the operations and development of the data persistence layer of storage products. The team has responsibility for the lifecycle of hardware nodes inclusive of evaluation, certification, provisioning, and ongoing systems management as well as the underlying persistence-layer software such as Ceph, Vast, Pure Storage, Minio, etc.We are looking for someone with a great understanding of teams and processes, who will be accountable for the engineering team’s performance and quality. You will also manage the recruitment, selection, and retention of the team as we continue to grow and scale.What You’ll Be Working OnRecruiting, managing, and maintaining a world-class remote engineering teamPlanning and executing complex technical projects in and related to cloud storageCollaborating with technical leads and contributing to the overall architecture, design, and development of storage projectsManaging software project schedules using various life cycle approachesDeveloping processes and tools to improve team performance and quality‑of‑lifeDeveloping processes and tools to improve product performance and qualityWorking with the product team to ensure successful product and feature rollouts from requirements analysis through implementation and long‑term operationsCollaborating with cross‑functional teams in infrastructure, operations, support, core services and systems engineering to design idiomatic, sustainable solutionsSupporting the goals and developing growth opportunities for team membersFacilitating transparent, constructive communication between team membersProviding coaching and counseling via mentoring, one‑on‑one meetings, etc.Organizing regular performance appraisalsPlanning and executing relevant training for the engineering teamWhat You’ll Add To DigitalOceanExperience managing, coaching, and mentoring software engineersDomain experience with the cloud, storage, and/or physical infrastructure systemsExperience shipping products at scale and on‑time, with a focus on the customerExperience managing and delivering projects throughout the entire SDLCExperience developing cross-disciplinary collaboration between engineering, operations, support, and product groupsExperience with end‑to‑end quality best practices and their implementationExperience with staffing, interviewing, building, and retaining teamsExperience conveying complex ideas in written, verbal and presentational formatsWorking knowledge of Ceph is a bonus but not requiredCompensation Range$182,040 - $227,520This is a remote roleWhy You’ll Like Working for DigitalOceanWe innovate with purpose.
