Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or a Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Amherst Systems in Buffalo, New York; an organization focused on development and production of state‑of‑the‑art Simulation Systems solutions. Our Mission Systems team is a leading innovator, developer, manufacturer, integrator, and supporter of a variety of advanced electronics for national security and non‑defense applications. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Software Engineering department here in Amherst, NY. The selected candidate will work in a dynamic people‑focused environment where he/she will interact with other developers, other engineering disciplines, and our customers. Roles and Responsibilities Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain software and firmware components and computing systems software to be applied to, and integrated with, engineering, scientific and manufacturing requirements Apply the appropriate Software Engineering standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the system development life cycle to support the generation of such engineering applications and products such as laboratory simulation systems, and display systems Interface with customers, suppliers, application users, and other technical and support personnel Travel to customer site for installation of our software applications upon completion (dependent on program phase) Responsible for the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, coding, testing, and integration "This position may be filled as a Principal Embedded Software Engineer or a Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer based on the qualifications listed below." Basic Qualifications for Principal Embedded Software Engineer Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of related experience; OR a master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 1 year experience. 5 years experience with Linux/Unix Operating Systems 5 years experience with C/C++ 5 years experience with git U.S. citizenship Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment. Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years experience; OR a master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years experience. 5 years experience with Linux/Unix Operating Systems 5 years experience with C/C++ 5 years experience with git Must have U.S. citizenship Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with RedHat Linux Operating Systems Experience with Qt or other UI frameworks Experience with JavaScript, Angular or other web frameworks Experience with Python, Perl, or other scripting languages Experience with concurrent/parallel programming and algorithms, including with CUDA or similar (e.g. OpenCL) Experience developing real‑time software on both Linux and Windows. Experience with Software Configuration Management tools including git/GitHub and JIRA Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills Able to work independently and identify solutions to complex problems Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 – $150,500.00 Secondary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 – $187,300.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
