Community Transportation Strategy Director Join HDR as the Community Transportation Strategy Director and help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. As part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, you will lead the practice that delivers community-focused solutions across all transportation market sectors, supporting HDR’s commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and a deep understanding of community needs. Primary Responsibilities Grow HDR’s global Community Transportation Strategy practice and partner with business leaders to coordinate activities aligned with enterprise goals. Expand existing transportation services by identifying HDR staff resources and market sector opportunities to raise technical excellence in community-centered solutions. Engage with existing and prospective clients, deepen market penetration, and identify key project opportunities. Represent HDR in industry events, committees, and publications to elevate HDR’s presence in community transportation strategy. Collaborate with Advisory Services teams and market sector leaders to develop innovative tools and methods for clients. Lead the Community Transportation Strategy practice, providing strategies, tools, and analyses for policy frameworks, project outcomes, decision‑making, compliance, and community benefits planning. Maintain a database of HDR resources, report on market trends, and coordinate with other business groups. Act as a technical focal point, providing support, quality oversight, best‑practice development, and principal‑level project management. Support business development by informing strategic visions, identifying pursuit opportunities, and coordinating proposal preparation and presentation. Develop an HDR educational program to elevate the practice across planning, outreach, design, and environmental services. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in urban, city, or regional planning, engineering, economics, marketing, communications, public relations, sustainability, or a related field. 15+ years of practical experience in the Architecture & Engineering industry. Experience managing client relationships and program or project pursuits. Industry leadership experience in associations with a visible profile in relevant markets. Cooperative work with client managers, technical practice directors, market sector directors, and operations staff. Proven recruiting and leading staff, with a strong mentoring history. Commitment to HDR values and active participation in an employee‑owned culture. Understanding of HDR’s Business Classes, Cross Sectors, Market Sectors, and Business Groups. Knowledge of HDR’s ID&E initiatives and corporate responsibility reporting. Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or closely related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field. Professional or engineering registration with related technical experience. Experience developing and managing diverse teams. Ability to work cooperatively with business class directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers. Commitment to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
