About the Role We’re looking for a dedicated Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant for our Surgical First‑Assist position to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our Surgical Services team, assisting across all surgical specialties, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. The NP/PA serves as an additional patient care provider, augmenting and extending patient services provided by the health care team. The NP/PA will work closely with members of the team and have a reasonable amount of autonomy in the care and medical decision‑making for patients. Responsibilities Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services including admission, evaluation, history and physical exams, diagnosis and procedure relevant to the proposed procedure, and develop a plan of care. Assist intraoperative technique and expertise during surgical procedures across all specialties. Perform postoperative care and monitor patient recovery, documenting outcomes. Order and review diagnostic tests, prescribe and manage pharmacological therapies, and reassess and modify plan of care as needed. Participate in peri‑operative patient management in collaboration with other health care providers. Serve on departmental and multidisciplinary committees and participate in quality improvement programs. Maintain current level of knowledge relative to professional practice and required professional documentation (license, certifications, infection control, ACLS/BLS, DEA). Act as a resource to staff, implement educational programs, and support interdisciplinary teamwork. Qualifications Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program accredited by a credentialing center recognized by the New York Board of Health Sciences (e.g. American Nurses' Credentialing Center or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants). RNFA required for Nurse Practitioners. Master’s level preparation preferred. Minimum of one (1) or two (2) years of experience in Surgical Specialty or other specialty service preferred. License to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in New York State. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Commitment to providing patient‑first, high‑quality service.
