Lecturer – Experiential Education – School of Law Position Overview Position title: Lecturer. Salary range: The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. The current full‑time salary range for these positions is $70,977 – $199,722. Position duration: Positions may be for one semester or for the full academic year, with the possibility of renewal. Appointments may be renewed based on need, funding, and performance. Position Description Berkeley Law is one of the premier law schools in the United States. Our programs are demanding, engaging, hands‑on, and selective. The J.D. and LL.M. programs host a diverse and constantly evolving curriculum. Hundreds of courses are offered, including many in Law and Technology, Business Law, International Law, Environmental Law, and Social Justice. Berkeley Law offers courses in litigation and transactional lawyering skills—negotiation, pre‑trial practice, civil trial practice, criminal trial practice, appellate advocacy, legal writing, drafting, legal research, alternative dispute resolution, oral advocacy, mediation, and related professional‑practice education. These courses are taught experientially using extensive simulation, video, and other learning by doing pedagogies. Instructors are appointed in the Lecturer title for lecture courses; instructors for experiential center courses are appointed to the Field Work Supervisor title. Lecturers will have important teaching responsibilities: preparing course materials (such as the syllabus) and maintaining a course website; holding office hours; assessing and offering feedback on student work; assigning grades; and advising students. UC Lecturers and Field Work Supervisors are academic appointees in an organized bargaining unit and are exclusively represented by the American Federation of Teachers – Unit 18. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at application) – Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent international degree. Additional qualifications (required at time of start) J.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., L.L.M. or Master’s degree, or equivalent international degree, and a minimum of three years of professional experience in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching in the United States. Or, Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six years professional experience in legal practice, judicial clerkship, or law school teaching in the United States. Availability to teach in‑person during required law school class times. Preferred qualifications Experience teaching courses in a United States law school with outstanding student valuations. Five or more years of legal practice experience in the United States or another jurisdiction, in the area of experiential education. Application Requirements Curriculum Vitae – Your most recent C.V.
