Physician Neurologist

The NJ VA Healthcare System is seeking a Physician - Neurologist to join our outstanding team in an outpatient capacity. This role may care for veterans at East Orange - Toms River - and/or Lyons NJ - and is suited for a physician who wants to grow with New Jersey VA.QualificationsTo qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDegree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicineThe degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completedCurrent - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of ColumbiaResidency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certificationApproved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) - or (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States)Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basisProficiency in spoken and written EnglishAdditional Requirement: Board Certified or Board Eligible in NeurologyPhysical Requirements: In Accordance With VA Directive and Handbook 5019DutiesThe Staff Neurologist will provide our veterans with comprehensive neurological care - both direct and supervisory - including the diagnosis - treatment - and management of neurological conditionsThis role will have a home location of either East Orange - NJ or Toms River - NJ - with travel up to 50% and may see veteran patients in East Orange - Toms River - and/or Lyons - NJPerform neurological assessments on veteran patients and interpret diagnostic tests such as MRI - CT scans - EEGs - and lumbar puncturesDevelop individualized treatment plans and provide ongoing patient care - including medication management - physical therapy referrals - and lifestyle counselingMaintain accurate and up-to-date veteran patient records in compliance with VA policies and privacy regulationsCollaborate with members of interdisciplinary teams - including primary care physicians - specialists - and nurses - to ensure continuity and high-quality health care for our veteransContribute to the development and implementation of quality improvement projects and assurance programs of Neurology servicesParticipate in regular and continuing education and remain updated on advancements in neurologyEducate veteran patients and their families on neurological disorders - treatment options - and preventive measuresProvide compassionate and empathetic care to improve the patient experience and ensure that the care of veteran patients is effective - patient-centric - and safeBenefitsCompetitive salary - annual performance bonus - regular salary increases50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAFederal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryCME: Possible $1 -000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage providedContract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlightingWork Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm #J-18808-Ljbffr
