Job Description

Supervises inmates performing work at the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Farm Facility. Responsible for transporting inmates, assigning and supervising work, maintaining security, and preparing forms and reports. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
Position Duties

These tasks represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of theclass as necessary.

Transports inmates from/to jail complex.

Receives work assignments; prepares crew assignment sheets and assigns work.

Plans, estimates, and supervises projects such as building minor facilities and structures.

Supervises and controls inmate workers; monitors for difficulties and intervenes if necessary.

Maintains security at all times; assures inmates are following rules and procedures; assures all inmates are accounted for and contained in appropriate area.

Operates equipment such as tractors, mowers & ATVs; performs minor maintenance such as cleaning or fueling.

Prepares forms, logs, and reports documenting crew activities.

Attends meeting to exchange information; attends in-service training.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Requires a Florida Driver's License, (must maintain for duration of employment).
  • Requires a minimum of six (6) months superintendent/supervisor experience.
  • This position requires successful completion of the Sheriff's office pre-employment medical certification.

Additional Information

LOCATION: Jail Farm; 2955 Pluckebaum Road Cocoa, Florida

Work is generally performed outdoors managing the activities of trustees performing community oriented work such as collecting roadside garbage, or farm related work.

Work schedule is eight hour shifts; schedule does include weekends and holidays. Schedule may change due to operational needs; candidates need to be available to work a flexible work schedule. Employees are subjected to extended work days and hours to meet operational needs or in the event of an emergency event.

Current Shift is Sunday thru Thursday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Friday and Saturday off.

Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks, and pre-employment medical physical. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.
