About Our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) Our state‑of‑the‑art, 12‑bed PCICU is equipped with cutting‑edge technology and advanced patient monitoring systems. The unit is supported by a highly specialized team, including: Advanced practice providers providing 24/7 coverage Specially trained nurses Respiratory therapists, clinical pharmacists, and nutritionists Child life specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists Case managers, social workers, and pediatric allied health professionals As a cornerstone of the Inova Heart Center, the PCICU serves approximately 400 patients annually, achieving outstanding outcomes. The Heart Center, with over 30 years of service to Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington Region, excels in surgical repair of complex congenital heart defects, including hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Our commitment to safety and quality is unwavering, with weekly reviews of patient safety and quality data and active participation in the PC4 registry.
