Within the School of Medicine, our Obstetric Department’s faculty, residents and students work to advance medical science in perinatal health programming, including discoveries in basic and clinical sciences, quality improvement initiatives, and understanding how delivery systems can improve health equity and address maternal/child health disparities. Position availability is described below. Position Summary The LSU Health Sciences Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in New Orleans is seeking applicants for a Perinatologist at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (clinical, non-tenure track) to join the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) division. The MFM Division serves as a resource and referral unit for the Greater New Orleans area and beyond. The division operates in five hospitals in the New Orleans area and serves as the region’s primary academic MFM unit. It educates 24 residents and 200 medical students. The primary ambulatory site is the Touro Infirmary Perinatal Center. The MFM division collaborates with affiliated pediatric subspecialty divisions and provides tertiary referral programming for pregnancies with complex fetal and maternal co-morbidities. The primary obstetric teaching hospital, Touro Infirmary, is a 360-bed facility with >2,500 deliveries per year and full in-house Obstetric Anesthesia and ICU support for tertiary maternal critical care programming. Job Title and Location Job Title: Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Location: New Orleans, LA Key Responsibilities Prenatal diagnosis, consultative and antenatal care services and ultrasound. Strong commitment to teaching to provide outstanding instruction to medical students and residents in various clinical venues. Clinical and population-based research opportunities. Provide comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies, including prenatal diagnosis, genetic counseling, fetal therapy, and management of maternal complications. Perform and interpret advanced obstetric imaging, including detailed ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography, and procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated care for complex cases (Neonatology, Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Surgery, OB Anesthesia, Adult Cardiology, Critical Care/ICU). Participate in the education and training of obstetrics and gynecology residents and medical students through clinical supervision, surgical instruction, and teaching. Engage in clinical and translational research with opportunities to lead or collaborate on studies focused on maternal-fetal medicine, prenatal diagnosis, or fetal therapies. Contribute to departmental initiatives, including quality improvement, patient safety, and development of evidence-based clinical protocols. Share in the on-call rotation for maternal-fetal medicine, providing consultation and care for patients with high-risk pregnancies. Qualifications Medical degree (or equivalent) Board Certification or Board Eligibility (or equivalent) in Maternal Fetal Medicine Board Certification in OBGYN Licensed to practice Medicine in Louisiana before hire date Completion of an accredited OB/GYN residency program Completion of an accredited MFM fellowship program Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in an academic and team-oriented environment Commitment to providing patient-centered care Preferred Qualifications Clinical proficiency with invasive prenatal diagnostic procedures, perinatal ultrasound imaging, maternal disease management and leadership in public health programming. Experience in medical education and mentoring, with interest in curriculum development and academic leadership. Experience or interest in clinical research, fetal therapy, or health outcomes research in maternal-fetal medicine.
