Our town borders the Del Monte Forest, the Pacific Ocean, Monterey Bay, Pebble Beach, and Monterey, featuring a fully accessible 3.5-mile coastline, scenic forests, golf links, historic lighthouse, parks, and a charming downtown. The Police Department comprises 33 full-time positions, including 22 sworn staff, serving a community of 15,522 residents. SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, provides professional, responsive, and courteous police services for the Pacific Grove Police Department (PGPD); responds to calls for service, maintains peace and safety, and enforces laws and ordinances. Duties include patrol, interventions, investigations, and traffic regulation. SPECIAL PAY INCENTIVES: FTO / Corporal / School Resource Officer / Detective Assignments: 5% Education Incentive Pay: up to 6.5% POST Certificate Pay: up to 5.5% Shift Differential: 2.5% Physical Fitness Incentive Program: $441 to $1,323 Spanish Bilingual Pay Incentive: $200/month This recruitment may close without notice. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Enforce laws, preserve peace, and provide community policing services. Respond to calls, investigate incidents, and ensure scene security. Arrest law violators, transport suspects, and testify as required. Complete reports, maintain equipment, and coordinate with emergency services. Perform specialized functions, training, and uphold department standards. Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and public trust. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: At least 21 years old, U.S. citizen, valid California driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent; POST-certified or out-of-state equivalent. Pass background, polygraph, and physical assessments. Willing to work various shifts. KNOWLEDGE OF: City policies, laws, and criminal justice system. Law enforcement principles, procedures, and community issues. SKILLS IN: Law interpretation, decision-making, and emergency response. Communication, teamwork, and operation of law enforcement tools. LICENSING & CERTIFICATION: Maintain valid California driver’s license and POST certification.
