As a member of our team, you will contribute to research that will pave the way for real-world experimental results. You will join our hardworking team of quantum scientists who are passionate about building new and exciting solutions to expand the state-of-the-art in quantum science. Our team is committed to integrity and honesty, and values substance and innovation.As a Quantum Information Science Theorist at APL you willResponsibilitiesPropose and lead independent research projects in quantum algorithm development and scalable approaches to quantum error characterization and protection.Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions.Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts modelling physically motivated quantum systems, and developing relevant characterization, control, and error correction strategies.QualificationsHave a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.Experience with programming and software development.Have research, accomplishments, and publications in the field of quantum information science.Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Are willing to occasionally travel to sponsor sites, conferences and workshops.Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
