Responsibilities Enterprise Architects have a wide set of duties and responsibilities and often span many within a single work day. Primarily, the Enterprise Architect works to establish strategies, architectural future state, reference architecture, and oversees and assesses alignment with the established future‑state architecture as well as enterprise capabilities, standards, patterns, and principles. The Enterprise Architect also assists with aligning business and enterprise initiatives with technical strategy and serves as advisor to senior leadership. Strategy Development Enterprise Architects function as trusted advisors, influencing business strategy to drive Future State Architecture definition. They translate or map business strategy into information strategy and understand technology product and vendor strategies, products, and customer preferences. They represent the organization’s business requirements in a human‑consumable manner as it relates to strategy. Establish the Future State Architecture The Future State Architecture establishes a multi‑year vision for the technology with actionable plans to realize the vision. The Enterprise Architect is responsible for all or key aspects of defining and shepherding the enterprise through realizing the future state. Define the Reference Architecture The Enterprise Architect defines as well as coordinates Subject Matter Experts in the definition of the Reference Architecture. The Reference Architecture is the collection of enterprise‑wide principles, standards, patterns, and practices with which all solutions align. Assess Solutions for Alignment Enterprise Architects serve to assess candidate architecture for alignment with the Future State Architecture and Reference Architecture. They must demonstrate political awareness, a solid understanding of architectural trade‑offs, risk management, and how to express feedback on a candidate architecture in terms of risk. Monitor and Evaluate Technology and Trends Enterprise Architects must maintain a solid understanding of changes in technology and how those changes impact other technologies. They maintain awareness of emerging technology trends and actively assess the enterprise implications of those trends. Focus Area: Core Health Plan Operations This Enterprise Architect must demonstrate a deep understanding of core health plan operations. In partnership with other leaders, the Enterprise Architect will oversee a diverse portfolio of technology, services, and vendors focused on enrollment, billing, claims, and finance. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field, plus 8 years of work experience beyond degree. Key Qualifications Technical Literacy – high level of technical literacy to inform both the Future State Architecture and Reference Architecture. Analytical Assessment – advanced analytical skills to assess technology and sector trends and their implications. Time Management – effectively manage competing priorities. Leadership – experience with influencing, motivating, and leading within the enterprise. Communication – excellent written and verbal communication skills with team members, clients, and external vendors. Strategy – strong business acumen and experience translating business strategy into technology strategy. Architecture Frameworks – knowledge of TOGAF, DoDAF, FEAF, Zachman, SAFE, Lean Six‑Sigma. Location and Work This is an office role; the employee must work onsite, on average, 3 days per week. We are open to candidates located near one of the following office locations: Minnetonka, MN; Madison, WI; Omaha, NE; St. Louis, MO. Compensation and Benefits The full salary grade for this position is $127,800 – $219,000. The typical hiring salary range is expected to be between $127,800 – $191,625. Annual salary placement depends on education, work experience, certifications, role scope, internal pay equity, and market data. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for incentive plan compensation. Medica offers a generous total rewards package that includes medical, dental, vision, PTO, holidays, paid volunteer time off, 401(k) contributions, caregiver services, and many other benefits.
