Position Overview:

Power your future with Qualus as a Protection & Control Engineering Technician. Our P&C Technicians play a crucial role in the design and development of utility substation Protection and Control (P&C) engineering design packages. This position involves collaboration with senior-level engineers, managers, and clients, requiring the ability to confidently present technical solutions and respond to concerns in real time.

Responsibilities:
  • Work on project teams supporting all quality and project management goals.
  • Meet all project deadlines and support the processes and procedures to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical skills related to the design of electrical substations for the electric utility power grid through on-the-job work and formal training.
  • Develop physical layouts for protection & control equipment, protection & control logic, elementary, and wiring.
  • Develop drawings and assist in the preparation of design packages using CAD/drafting skills; Drawings include:
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • AC/DC Elementary Diagrams
    • Circuit Schedules
    • Logic Diagrams
    • Panel Arrangements
    • Z-Block Tables
    • One-Line Diagrams
    • Main One Line Diagram
    • RMOL's
    • Operating Diagrams
  • Prepare additional support documentation as needed to assist procurement, construction, and operation/maintenance of systems being designed.
  • Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements.
  • Consistently following established design standards and CAD drafting standards while assuring quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Identifying process improvement ideas and commuting ideas through appropriate management channels.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma.
  • AS Degree or 2 years of formal post-high school specialized trade (technical school/certifications).
  • 5+ years experience in P&C substation design using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Experience directly related to working with electricity, preferably in utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong knowledge of MicroStation.
  • Microsoft Office product application.
