Family advocates explain services that are available, help families access and navigate resources, provide warm hand-offs and linkages. Family Advocates help families overcome the impacts of mental health stigma and discrimination. They support the family caregiver with their own self-care. From supporting families in advocating for educational rights, completing Care Court applications and AB 1424 forms, understanding a mental health diagnosis and creating a self-care plan. Our Family Advocates are prepared to partner with and support each family on their caregiver journey for their love one(s). Family Advocates also conduct extensive mental health community outreach.DutiesUnder the supervision and guidance of the Program Supervisor, the Bilingual Family Advocates' duties may include, but are not limited to the following:Assist clients in navigating the complex behavioral health care system in Alameda CountySupport clients via phone, virtual meetings, or by in-person consultationProvide a full range of information, support, advocacy, encouragement, and referrals to appropriate community resources, and related services in order to assist the clients in coping effectively with immediate and/or long-term situationsAttend, facilitate and/or support family caregivers self-help groups, existing family support groups and family peer support effortsDocument key components of calls and activities (database, logbooks, MAA billing, etc.)Actively participate in liaison role with key partners such as NAMI affiliates (attend meetings, coordinate trainings, etc.)Active involvement in community outreach (e.g. table at health fairs, schools, and other public venues, etc.)Required QualificationsDirect lived experience as a family caregiver of a loved one who has a mental health challenge or serious mental illness; professional experience and/or education does NOT replace the personal lived experience that is requiredMust have demonstrated work history. Work experience may be paid or unpaid.HS Diploma or GEDMust have a motor vehicle available for daily use, possess a valid California driver's license, carry vehicle liability insurance, and have an acceptable motor vehicle report, as determined by MHAAC's insurance brokerBilingual in one of Alameda County's threshold languages: Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin), Farsi, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog, or VietnameseHave proficiency in Microsoft Office - Outlook (email) and Word (documents)Must be able to provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination and be willing to obtain CDC/Alameda County recommended booster shotsMust successfully pass a fingerprint background check by CADOJ and the FBIAdditional Desired QualificationsBachelor's degreeExperience navigating Alameda County Behavioral Health (ACBH) care systemExperience in MAA billing and/or using database platformsExperience working in a non-profit environmentExperience using video-based platforms such as Teams and/or ZoomExperience working with diverse populations in underserved communitiesHOURS OF WORK: Tue - Sat: 8:30 AM-4:12 PM.
