Transmission Line Engineer

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for the engineering and design activities related to Transmission Line Engineering such as engineering analysis and design, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management Prepare project construction documents such as: plan and profile drawings; design drawings; engineering, material, and construction specifications; project schedules and bills of material Develop project design alternatives and corresponding cost estimates Design new transmission line facilities with voltages ranging between 69 kV and 765 kV Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line design projects. Attend contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely and in accordance with plans and established schedules, and in accordance with AEP policies, rules and standards, and in compliance with external regulations Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies and contractors Provide leadership to facilitate project completion, to train and mentor other engineers, and to develop measurable work area goals and objectives Function as an engineering project lead for transmission projects Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or external entities to complete transmission projects Provide training and guidance to lower level employees Identify and initiate corrective action when transmission line project objectives are not being met Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects Promote engineering professionalism and standards Develop, recommend, and implement plans by establishing goals, objectives, and requirements that include all scheduling, resources, and information for complex engineering Position will require occasional travel for site visits Education and Experience Requirements Four to five years+ of experience in utilities working with Transmission Line Design Four to five years+ years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish Four to five years+ years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for Transmission Lines projects Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET) Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering (ABET) will count toward years of experience A PE License is preferred but not required. Requisite Abilities and Skills Work effectively with both internal and external customers, including Project Management, Transmission Line Design, Distribution, Supply Chain and Right-of-Way Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to facilitate adherence to project schedule and budget Advanced understanding of standards and codes such as IEEE, ANSI, NEC and NESC Possess advanced understanding of equipment, material, ordering, and of material for Transmission Line construction Possess ability to understand interrelationship between transmission systems and component equipment Stay abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Reno, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
