**Camp Assistant Cook and Housekeeping Position - Girl Scouts (seasonal)**

Syracuse, IN **Assistant Cook and Housekeeping Position**The assistant cook and housekeeping position works with the head cook to prepare and serve food to campers and staff, and keeps the kitchen area clean and tidy. Other duties include purchasing, preparing, and packing out food for cookouts; helping unpack and inventory deliveries; and keeping public areas clean and orderly. The assistant cook and housekeeping position is responsible for maintaining the kitchen and food-storage and dining areas so that they meet ACA standards and state health regulations. The ideal candidate will have a current Safe Serve certification, as well as training in food-service management and housekeeping.

**Position Summary:**

Assist Head Cook in preparing, serving food and keeping the kitchen clean and orderly. Cleaning buildings as scheduled.

**Essential Duties:**

* Assists the head cook prepare and serve meals and cleanup.

* Assist preparing, purchasing, and packing out food for units for cookouts.

* Maintain Kitchen, food storage and dining area to meet ACA standards and state health laws.

* Monitor and maintain freezer and refrigeration temperature levels.

* Assist in unpacking, inventorying and storing deliveries.

* Clean restrooms, dining hall, shower house, activity areas as scheduled.

* Maintain cleanliness of public visitation areas daily

* Complete appropriate end-of season reports and procedures, as appropriate.

* Attend and participate as required in pre-camp training, as appropriate.

* Other duties as assigned to meet the Councils goals

**Education:**

* Current Safe Serve Certification, preferred

* Training in food service management and housekeeping

**Knowledge and Experience****:**

* Ability to assist preparing meals for large numbers of people.

* Ability to work with food service equipment and maintain a safe and orderly kitchen.

* Knowledge of appropriate clean methods for kitchens, restrooms, shower houses, meeting spaces and common areas

* Ability to work cooperatively with others as well as individually

**Physical/Mental Essential Requirements:**

* Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying (up to thirty (30) pounds).

* Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

* Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

* Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

* Occasional need to stand for long periods of time.

* Ability to focus on detail and accuracy of work product.

* Valid Driver's License

* Insurable under the Councils policy for driving and proof of personal vehicle insurance.

* Occasional high stress may be experienced in dealing with staff, parents, girls, and volunteers.

* A commitment and passion for the Girl Scout Mission and an ability to effectively promote and communicate the Mission and Vision to external and internal stakeholders.
