Summary The Senior Manager Environmental Engineering is responsible for ensuring that Ryder environmental projects are managed in compliance with all regulatory and Ryder requirements. The role reports to the Director of Environmental Engineering and oversees Project Engineers and Environmental Engineering staff. Job Description The position manages the Company SPCC, Industrial Waste Water and Storm Water Management Programs, supervises supplier relationships, and incorporates Ryder Accounting and financial reporting guidelines into project engineering standards. The Senior Manager also ensures maximum benefit and recovery from State Trust Fund Reimbursement programs. Essential Functions Manage execution of the FMS 15‑year Fuel Storage Tank Management Plan for select regions and provide project supervision for new fuel tank installations, upgrades, and removals. Direct the Building Materials Assessment Program for corporate building initiatives and oversee junior staff. Conduct Environmental Due Diligence for Ryder acquisitions, including site assessments, groundwater monitoring, and remediation projects. Ensure project standards meet Environmental Capital and Financial Reserve requirements and obtain approvals under company capital expenditure policies. Design and manage vehicle maintenance facility lubricant and compressed air systems, manage supplier qualifications, and handle competitive bidding processes for environmental consulting, contracting, and laboratory services. Minimize long‑term costs, maximize system uptime, and extend useful life of Ryder fueling infrastructure while maintaining current knowledge of fuel system components and Ryder design standards. Maintain regulatory compliance for federal, state, and local mandates, and establish guidelines for special programs such as Industrial Waste Water, Storm Water, and SPCC. Provide environmental technical support and solutions to the FMS field organization, including maintenance initiatives for Future Fuel Island, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), automated self‑serve fueling, and alternative fuels. Perform Phase I & II Real Estate Environmental Site Assessments to support due diligence, manage hazardous building materials assessment and abatement projects, and oversee related construction and repair programs. Additional Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple functional areas of the organization, at all levels. Strong communication, organizational, and Office Word, Excel, and Project capabilities. Confident and experienced in collaborating with state/local environmental regulatory agencies. Leadership skills, including mentoring and motivating junior staff on Environmental Engineering and Environmental Services teams. Proven track record of building and motivating regional/national contractor, engineering, lab, and supplier project management teams to deliver cost‑effective, timely, and successful project results. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in engineering, geology, environmental sciences, project management, or related fields. 10+ years of experience in managing site assessment and remediation projects post UST removals. 10+ years of extensive experience in monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, upgrading, and replacing underground and above ground fuel tank systems and related infrastructure. 10+ years of progressive project management responsibility with emphasis on underground and above ground fuel storage and dispensing infrastructure in a regional or national operating environment. Travel 25 – 35 % Job Category Environmental Health and Safety Compensation Information Compensation may be influenced by relevant experience, education, work location, market data, internal equity, and salary ranges. The position may also be eligible for an annual bonus, commission, and/or long‑term incentive plan. Pay Type is Salaried.
