OverviewFire Protection DE, Data Center Design Engineering – AWSJoin a role focused on fire protection design for AWS data centers, influencing design, construction, operations, and maintenance of fire protection systems globally. You will contribute to fire suppression, fire detection, fire alarm, mass notification, fire-resistive construction, and life safety, using prescriptive and performance-based design approaches. As an Owner, you will help ensure the fire protection features protect people and data center operations throughout the building lifecycle, and contribute to the continual improvement of design standards. Responsibilities Perform and oversee project-related work, including water supply analysis and design for fire water service to buildings; coordinate with utilities and fire officials to establish site infrastructure requirements. Coordinate fire protection system space requirements, supporting utilities, and equipment locations; provide detailed construction specifications for fire protection trades. Prepare prescriptive designs for building fire suppression, alarm, and detection systems; in some cases prepare or approve performance-based design elements. Review design disciplines to ensure minimum fire protection requirements are met; may oversee or perform this work as needed. Act as SME to ensure contractors have necessary information to build to standard; enable operations teams to operate and maintain facilities. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (design, construction, commissioning, operations, vendors, service providers) and with local building and fire officials. Travel up to 25% as required. About the TeamThe Data Center Design Engineering team at AWS includes Architects, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Fire Protection, and Controls Engineers focused on the next generation of data centers. The team aims for high uptime, secure, safe, and efficient facilities while evolving designs to meet demand. QualificationsBasic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in fire protection or a related engineering field with at least 5 years of qualifying experience; or equivalent degree and experience. Cumulative 10+ years in design engineering or construction related to fire protection (fire suppression, alarm/detection, life safety, fire-resistive construction). Experience applying local codes, NFPA standards, ICC requirements, and related fire protection industry standards. Experience with design review, specification development, design standards, and submittal review; ability to read construction documents for all trades. Licensed Fire Protection Engineer Preferred Qualifications Experience authoring technical documents, Code Modification Requests (CMRs), and Alternate Materials and Methods (AMMs). Experience with data center, critical facilities, or large-scale mechanical and power systems construction. Experience as a fire marshal, plans examiner, inspector, or authority having jurisdiction. Strong knowledge of ICC Codes, NFPA Standards, and related fire protection standards. Experience with performance-based design, code development processes, and NFPA technical committee participation. Advanced knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems commissioning. Strong business analytics skills.
