Leverage your expertise both in the field and the office as an Engineering Tech II. Your role will involve managing capital construction projects, leading survey crews, compiling crucial data on public infrastructure, and preparing detailed engineering plans, maps, estimates, studies, and reports. You'll ensure adherence to City standards and specifications by reviewing plans and specifications, monitoring private development projects' progress, and conducting final acceptance inspections. Your expertise will be instrumental in addressing inquiries and resolving complaints related to engineering operations. Salary will increase to $29.39 per hour after successfully completing six-month probationary period.

Oversee routine capital construction projects to ensure compliance with City standards and specifications, while managing essential project documentation. Measure completed work and process progress payments. Direct testing and sampling of contractor's work and materials. Operate and adjust basic testing equipment for material testing, evaluating results. Issue permits for water and sewer taps, conducting field inspections for contractor compliance. Serve as survey party chief for routine surveys or crew member for complex surveys, utilizing survey equipment like transits, levels, GPS, and electronic total stations. Prepare preliminary and advanced engineering drawings, including designs, details, and standards. Generate drawings from complex survey field notes or electronic data for designs and engineering studies. Research property ownership and legal descriptions in County Clerk's office. Provide field locates for City water and sewer facilities. Compile information and prepare preliminary reports on public infrastructure, recording location, dimensions, condition, etc. Lead technical work in preparing engineering plans, maps, estimates, studies, and reports. Review plans and specifications for compliance with City standards. Update permanent engineering files, records, and maps to document changes, additions, and corrections to City infrastructure. Conduct periodic observations and perform final acceptance inspections of private development projects, ensuring compliance with City standards and specifications. Respond to inquiries and complaints from the public, consultants, contractors, other agencies, utility companies, and City departments regarding routine engineering operations and responsibilities. Address public complaints related to street, drainage, water, and sewer problems. Perform related duties as assigned. Desired Training and Experience High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by vocational or college courses in civil engineering, surveying, or construction. Three years of relevant experience in civil engineering, engineering technology, or surveying; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS preferred.

Required Knowledge & Skills Strong grasp of mathematics, including trigonometry. Basic proficiency in Excel. Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices. Familiarity with surveying principles, practices, and equipment. Understanding of construction practices and equipment. Competence in using personal computers and relevant software. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Skill in applying engineering standards and specifications to evaluate completed work. Capacity to plan and organize tasks to meet deadlines. Proficiency in drafting with minimal guidance. Effective communication with various stakeholders. Physical stamina for outdoor work in adverse conditions and at construction sites. Possession of a valid State of Illinois driver's license. Examination Process

Applicants must successfully complete all portions of the selection process:

Excel Proficiency Test

All applicants must take a basic Excel proficiency test and pass with a minimum score of 70.00%.

2.

Written Examination

A

ll applicants passing the Excel test must pass the written test with a minimum score of 70.00%.

3.

Oral Interview

Applicants passing the written test must pass an oral interview with a minimum score of 70.00%.

4.

Veteran Points

Applicants passing the written test and oral interview may be eligible to receive 5.00 veteran preference points added to their final examination score.

5.

Seniority Points

Applicable persons receiving a score of 70.00% or more will receive 0.50 seniority preference points for each full year of continuous City of Decatur

AFSCME service. A maximum of 10.0 points may be added to the final examination score.

6.

Physical Examination/Background Investigation

Applicants placed on the eligible register must pass a physical examination including a drug screen and a background investigation.

Residency The Engineering Tech II position is covered under the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) collective bargaining agreement.

AFSCME employees shall reside within the corporate limits of Macon County or any municipality extending into Macon County.

An appointee may reside outside said limits but must comply no later than 90 days after the completion of the six-month probationary period.
