Deputy Director of Operations Deputy Director of Operations oversees daily management and strategic direction of transportation operations to ensure safety, service quality, contractual compliance, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Provide leadership and operational oversight for three transportation locations, ensuring consistent execution of safety, service, and performance standards across all sites. Direct, support, and develop frontline and supervisory teams, fostering a positive, accountable, and high‑performance work environment. Oversee daily operations including staffing, scheduling, dispatch, on‑time performance, and service delivery, ensuring seamless coordination across multiple locations. Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, managing competing priorities, high‑volume workloads, and time‑sensitive operational needs with accuracy and efficiency. Utilize advanced computer skills—including Excel reporting, systems navigation, data tracking, and KPI analysis—to support operational planning, audit readiness, and compliance monitoring. Build strong interpersonal relationships at all levels, effectively engaging employees, coaching teams, resolving conflicts, and maintaining a consistent leadership presence throughout all assigned locations. Ensure full compliance with contractual requirements, safety protocols, and all company policies while identifying risks and implementing corrective actions. Lead annual bid processes (August, October, and Summer) across all assigned sites, coordinating staffing needs, communication, and scheduling logistics. Investigate internal and external complaints related to Driver performance, customer service, safety, or operational issues; determine root causes and recommend corrective action. Oversee Driver attendance tracking and ensure adherence to attendance policies; partner with HR and Labor Relations when escalation is required. Produce accurate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports, identifying trends and recommending strategies for improvement. Develop, refine, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve workflow efficiency, operational consistency, and compliance. Monitor and manage budget performance across all three locations, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial targets. Perform other duties as assigned. Education, Licensing, and Certifications High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience considered. Experience Requirements Seven (7) years of supervisory or management experience in the passenger transportation industry. Experience with labor relations, including grievances and negotiations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of relevant federal and state employment laws. Thorough understanding of laws, ordinances, and regulations governing transit operations. Working knowledge of operational methods within transit systems, including staff and departmental interactions. Ability to work effectively with state and local government officials. Demonstrated cost control and budget management experience across multiple locations. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent presentation and influencing skills. Ability to organize and perform work efficiently with strong attention to detail. Ability to work effectively with labor unions. Travel Requirements Less than 5% travel outside of the immediate area. Pre-Employment Requirements Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check, including fingerprinting. Physical Requirements Must be able to work varied shifts or flexible schedules as needed. Frequent periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen. Regular standing, walking, reaching, handling, talking, and hearing. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work Environment Work may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Moderate noise levels.
