Key Position Details:

This position supports the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute's spinal cord team. It is a mix of outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation. New graduates are welcome to apply, but must have nursing experience in PM&R, neurology, spine, or a related discipline to be considered.

  • Golden Valley outpatient clinic Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday
  • Abbott Northwestern Hospital inpatient rehab coverage Thursday, Friday, and every other Wednesday
  • Average of 7 patients per day outpatient, and rounding on up to 12 patients per day inpatient
  • Standard work hours between 8am and 5pm Monday - Friday
  • No weekends, no call

Job Description:

Provides help with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations as part of a physician/nurse team in accordance with the designated specialty. Works in both inpatient and outpatient situations and can perform independently or as part of a treatment team. Serves as an educator, case manager, consultant to staff and multidisciplinary health care team.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
    • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
    • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
    • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
    • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
    • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
    • Refers for specialty care when determined.
    • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Participates in health care team
    • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
    • Acts as resource to members of the team.
    • Works with primary care team for program development.
    • Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
    • Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree - Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program


Preferred Qualifications

  • New Graduates may be considered if they have prior work experience in PM&R, spine, neurology, or a related field


Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification within specialty required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire
