Overview Databento is a startup that builds modern APIs to get financial data. As a Series A company, we have raised $37.8M to date and grown revenues by over 958% year over year with a small team. This is a remote backend/software engineering role with optional frontend responsibilities. The role is suitable for a broad range of experience levels (on parity with L3 to L6 at a large tech firm). You will have an outsized impact on the companys trajectory. Responsibilities Collaborate with engineers and product teams to develop web backend and APIs for core products. Ideate, design, and implement product features and improvements with the engineering and product teams. Maintain existing web and data applications. Improve performance and developer experience of web APIs. Improve engineering workflows, including testing, release, deployment, QA, and documentation. Requirements Proficiency in modern Python. 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and/or integrating web APIs (REST, GraphQL, RPC). Nice-to-haves Prior work experience at a high-growth tech startup or electronic trading firm. Experience with financial data (market data feeds, time series, security references, machine-readable news) or analytics. Experience in a Linux environment. Exposure to lower-level languages (C, C++, Rust). Experience with containerized deployment (Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes). Experience with release engineering, CI/CD, and zero-downtime deployment practices. Experience with database design/administration (MySQL, Redis, ClickHouse). Experience with web frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI, Starlette). Exposure to frontend web development (TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React). Experience with single-page applications and modern web app architectures. Degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field.
