OverviewThe Radiation Oncologist is responsible for providing care and medical oversight of patients with malignant diseases. The Radiation Oncologist uses interpersonal skills to collaborate with other medical staff to assure quality services are provided and represents Bayhealth Oncology Service Line to medical staff and the community. The Radiation Oncologist provides oncology services using substantiated guidelines in a timely manner.LocationSussex Campus HospitalStatusFull Time 80 HoursShiftDaysGeneral SummaryResponsibilities are focused on delivering evidence-based oncology care and coordinating with the multidisciplinary team to optimize treatment plans and patient outcomes.ResponsibilitiesProvides oncology services using evidence-based and substantiated guidelines in a timely manner. Completes all related documentation following Bayhealth policy.Meets with newly diagnosed cancer patients to collaborate on treatment process. Educates the patient and family regarding the disease, diagnostic procedures, tests, labs, and goals of treatment regimens. Identifies realistic goals and potential outcomes for the patient. Communicates treatment plan with team members (Nurse Practitioner, Radiation Therapist, Physics, RN Navigator) and oversees treatment plan delivery.Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team (surgery, hematology-oncology, radiology, and pathology) on patient’s plan of care. Advocates for best practice, guidelines-driven patient care in multidisciplinary conference settings. Communicates patient’s plan of care to appropriate team members (e.g., Primary Care).Collects relevant patient healthcare data, analyzes data to determine patient needs. Adheres to policy for documentation, diagnosis coding, and accurate charge capture.Participates in Bayhealth’s Clinical Research Program to recommend potential clinical research studies for enrollment on-site or refer to appropriate tertiary setting.Communicates with Oncology Administration regarding established workflows within the department to improve performance. Participates in the Oncology Service Line strategic planning and promotes the plan’s vision and goals to the community.Performs all other duties within the scope and range of job responsibilities as assigned.Required Education, Credential(s) and ExperienceEducation: Doctor of Medicine; must also have completed 1 year of recognized internal medicine residency program or equivalent (Family Medicine, General Surgery, Transitional Year) and 4 years of Radiation Oncology Residency.Credential(s): Physician MD; Physician - Controlled Substance Registration; DEA Diversion Control Division; Eligible to become an active member of Bayhealth Medical Staff; or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) licensure.Experience: Required: No experience necessary.
