Software Engineering Managers have the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects while managing a team of Engineers. They optimize their own code and ensure Engineers can optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage project goals, contribute to product strategy, and help develop your team. Teams work across the company in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large‑scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design, and more. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, handle a large product budget, and oversee deployment of large‑scale projects across multiple international sites. The Seattle/Kirkland‑based engineering team has a broad portfolio of products and technologies. We take pride in our highly collaborative style of development and are responsible for Demand Visibility and highly optimized supply chain execution across Alphabet. As part of efficient supply‑chain operations we build a demand tracking platform that enables customers to stay on top of order health and provides execution teams with a conduit to expose risks and exceptions. The AI and Infrastructure team redefines what’s possible, empowering Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability, and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide. Responsibilities: Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization’s goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching. Develop the mid‑term technical goal and roadmap within the scope of your (often multiple) teams. Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs. Define the team goal/mission and strategy, ensuring they are aligned with the broader organization. Be accountable for meeting your team’s commitments (OKRs, Bug SLOs, Annual/H Planning, etc.).
