Our campus also features an organic farm with access to nutrition, education, and therapies. We will serve as a community hub that touches residents of all ages and promotes a higher quality of life. This is a new model of collaboration between ProMedica and the community. We are excited to set a new standard for health and wellness in Lenawee County.POSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for the collection of products or specimens for point-of-care testingadhering to the established guidelines.ACCOUNTABILITIES*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*1. Collects products or specimens for the basic procedures and performs point-of-care testingusing proper techniques.2. Follows strict principles of asepsis and antisepsis. Assists in the care of the patient prior to,during and after specimen collection.3. Determines, from like samples, combinations of tests and the associated acceptableminimum volumes. Knowledgeable of pre-analytic variables, which may affect specimenanalysis. Familiar with test synonyms and abbreviations, and cross-referencing tests tospecimen types.4. Performs all pre-analytic tasks associated with sample preparation including, but not limitedto, centrifugation, decanting, specimen distribution, and specimen packaging.5. Utilizes laboratory computer information system to include all work aides and shortcutswithin the system. Utilizes quality assurance data to enhance the services rendered by thesection. Recommends changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customersatisfaction.6. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, qualityassurance, safety, environmental and infection control. Complies with requirements ofaccreditation and regulatory agencies by attending mandatory in-services and continuinglaboratory education and participating in continuous quality improvement. Maintains andupgrades personal professional development.7. Determines, from like samples, combinations of tests and the associated acceptableminimum volumes. Knowledgeable of pre-analytic variables, which may affect specimenanalysis. Familiar with test synonyms and abbreviations, and cross-referencing tests tospecimen types.8. Maintains appropriate par levels and organizes supplies and equipment in work areas asassigned. Notifies appropriate associate when re-order levels are reached, and equipmentneeds to be repaired.9. Assists in the training new associates or students.10. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.Job RequirementsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Must be in High School or pursuing a High School Diploma, or equivalent. Completionof a formal phlebotomy training program or documented phlebotomy experience (Ex.venipunctures, experience with effective puncture techniques, blood draws).Skills: Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond toinquiries. Requires effective interpersonal skills. Must be able to input and retrieve informationfrom computer.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Associates degree in science related field.WORKING CONDITIONSPersonal Protective Equipment: May require lab coat, gloves, gown, and mask as required.Physical Demands: Must be able to read and speak the English language. Must be able to see,hear, and move intermittently, or use prosthetics that will enable you to function adequately toassure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Frequent prolonged standing. Mustbe able to continuously move about department and between workstations. Must be able tomove, lift or carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., up to 10% of the time. Must beable to differentiate colors. Regularly exposed to infection/contagious disease.
