EU Research Framework Programme funded: No. Research Infrastructure staff position: No. Offer Description The research group Ecology at the Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel in Switzerland invites applications for a full‑time position at the intersection of science, technology and fieldwork. The research group combines field observations with experiments, remote sensing and modelling to address questions related to alpine and arctic plant ecology, macroecology, biodiversity, biogeography and environmental change. The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical management and support of the research group, and will contribute to its research activities and team teaching. Responsibilities include management of the group’s website and research data on local servers and GitHub, maintenance and acquisition of field and IT equipment, computation of environmental datasets, and organising and conducting field campaigns. In addition, the candidate will collaborate closely with group members, advising them on efficient coding and use of the HPC cluster. Applicants should hold an MSc or PhD degree in biology, environmental science, data science or related fields. We seek a motivated, reliable candidate with a self‑organised and solution‑oriented work attitude who is interested in contributing to research. Strong organisational skills, teamwork ability and a commitment to a collegial and inclusive workplace are essential. Good spoken English is required; knowledge of German is desirable. Advanced skills in handling large databases, coding in R, GIS, and HPC cluster utilisation are required. Additional programming languages or experience with Google Earth Engine are a plus. Candidates should also have prior experience organising and conducting fieldwork in alpine or arctic ecosystems, knowledge in plant species identification, and hold a valid driver’s licence. This position offers varied work at the intersection of science, technology and fieldwork, with the possibility of becoming permanent. The successful candidate will join a supportive and collaborative research environment in the international and interdisciplinary Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Basel.
