Department: Same Day Surgery
Shift/Schedule: Part Time (16 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The nursing assistant's primary job function is to perform a variety of basic patient care activities for the personal needs and comfort of patients and families while preparing for surgery and discharge. Supports each Strategic Value by providing excellent care to those we serve. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

•High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

•Completion of an approved nursing assistant program is preferred

Licensure:

•BLS within 90 days of hire required

Experience:

•At least one year medical/surgical experience preferred. Job related experience preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Performs basic patient care activities/treatments/ and daily assignments.

2. Observes patients and reports unusual conditions and/or reactions to the registered nurse.

3. Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.

4. Answer call lights and responds to patient needs.

5. Maintains patient environment and performs routine cleaning tasks in nursing unit/patient rooms.

6. Documents according to policy.

7. Alerts staff when supplies are needed, replenishes stock, and runs errands.

8. Maintains positive interactions with customers.

9. Contributes and fosters the team approach in all unit operations.

10. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy

11. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's

12. Assists with hourly rounding.

13. Stocks non-PAR level supplies daily and weekly according to department needs.

14. Properly maintains equipment including removing damaged/ nonworking pieces of equipment and completing maintenance repair requests in a timely manner.

15. Completes yearly glucometer competency and completes fingersticks as needed.

16. Performs other duties as assigned.
