assess critically ill but stable patients, communicate and escalate changes as needed, care for patients that are trached on ventilators, face mask ventilation, heated high flow oxygenation, take care of patients on inotropes, and various other gtts, wound care, total lift patients, intepret EKG strips and recognize changes, work as a team and independently, fast paced environment

Our patient population is heavier and sicker than a Stepdown, Tele or Gen Med floor. Intermediate is a level of care above these units and a level below ICU. We are constantly monitored, take care of patients who are trached and ventilated, some gtts, swan ganz with hemodynamic monitoring, post op day 1 or 2 open hearts, cardiac procedural patients, etc.

We use EPIC computerized charting, Pyxis medication management system, Alaris pumps, various lift equipment, some ventilator usage on trached patients

Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Minimum 2 years Intermediate Care experience

Recent experience in ICU or INT care - 1-2 years experience in ICU or INT continuous

Need to be able to go between ICU and INT.

Specific licensures and certifications/registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

BLS is required, ACLS, IL RN license

Shift or schedule requirements.

12 hour shifts, 3 days per week, rotating weekends though depending on balance of schedule unsure of frequency, but no more than every other.

Floating to other units/departments. (If so, to which units/departments?)

Yes. Floating can be to other Intermediate departments or to General Medical Units.

Bed size/number of rooms for this unit/dept.

Adult Cardiac Intermediate has 12 Intermediate beds.

Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only)

Nurse to Patient ratio is 1:3.

Dress Code:

Scrub tops and bottoms, closed toe shoes, no visible tattoos, no piercings other than ears can be worn, please Dress Code policy

Two to three days of unit specific orientation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients served. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the princi-ples of growth and devel-opment as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs patients.

Work requires a professional level of knowledge of nursing practice and theory at a level that generally can be acquired by completion and graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.

Current State license as a Registered Nurse required.

Work requires unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to learn department/unit policies, procedures and work routines; to develop proficiency in use of medical equipment and instru-ments used on assigned unit; to learn nursing care and quality assurance standards; and gain an understanding of the types of infants cared for on the unit, their needs, and effective nursing interventions.

Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members, and/or significant others; to communicate effectively and concisely with other care providers; and to instruct patients, family members, and/or significant others in home care procedures.

Work requires analytical ability necessary to assess patient's physical, psychological and social needs, develops individualized care plans, and evaluate responses to medical and nursing interventions.
