We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner who will serve on a multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively with the faculty, fellows, staff and other Nurse Practitioners at the top ranked Johns Hopkins Division of Endocrinology Diabetes & Metabolism. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide clinical care and education to inpatients with diabetes. Working with a strong focus on quality care and patient satisfaction, the NP will join a dynamic group of diabetes care providers and staff in the division. The NP will see adult patients in one or more ambulatory (outpatient) diabetes/endocrinology clinics and assist in the management of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Tasks include, but are not limited to, medication adjustments, diabetes device management, and referrals to subspecialists for treatment of diabetes complications, if needed. Serving in a division that exceeds national benchmarks for employee engagement, the NP will impact patient lives as a valued care team member practicing at the height of their scope of training, developing significant expertise, and advancing outpatient diabetes care across the institution. The NP will participate in the Diabetes Center's education curriculum and will actively interact with the broader provider community to contribute to the continuous advancement and improvement of diabetes care. Staff privileges will be granted to the NP by the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board and Bayview Medical Center; these privileges include specific tasks and are reviewed annually. The NP will participate in training and evaluation led by the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, and meet internal training guidelines prior to treating patients. Skills needed include an ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members. Analytical abilities are necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel. The NP must be able to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Full time outpatient clinical care equates to eight (8), half-day (4-hour) sessions per week. Eight (8) return patients are scheduled per 4-hour session. Seeing 8 patients per half-day (4 hours) of clinic. Making recommendations for medication management of diabetes. Reviewing and interpreting continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data for patients using CGM data. Prescribing insulin pumps and managing insulin pump settings. Documenting progress notes in the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely fashion. Responding to MyChart patient advice requests in a timely fashion. Responding to EMR staff messages in a timely fashion. Responding to EMR Secure Chat messages in a timely fashion. Assisting in the cross-coverage of patients followed by other diabetes nurse practitioners or providers in the division. Working collaboratively with other outpatient providers and staff in the Johns Hopkins diabetes clinics. Educating patients and families regarding the nature of their clinical problems and treatment plans. Participating in ongoing continuing medical education and in monthly Diabetes Center meeting. Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Analytical ability necessary to evaluate health status of patient and to implement proper care plan. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with other services. Ability to work well as a member of a health care team with a high degree of self-motivation. General computer knowledge and ability to use computerized medical information systems. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing Current CPR / ACLS certification required. Preferred Qualifications Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist designation and/or prior experience in diabetes management. Experience in diabetes management. Have or obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) certificate within first 1-2 years of date of hire. Additional Minimum Qualifications Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Additional experience may substitute for master's degree, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
