Executive Director of a Nonprofit Organization Oak Tree Corner is a nonprofit organization based in Dayton, Ohio that provides a safe, caring community for grieving children and teens (ages 3-18) in the greater Dayton area. Services, which include support groups, meals, activities and family peer support, are offered free of charge, are non‑denominational, and run year‑round. Position Overview The Executive Director (ED) is the senior staff leader responsible for overall leadership, strategic direction, financial sustainability, operational management, fundraising, staffing, and community engagement. The ED works closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the mission is fulfilled, programs are effective, and the organization is positioned for growth. Key Responsibilities Develop, update and execute the organization’s strategic plan in partnership with the Board. Ensure program quality and relevance for grieving children, teens, and families, including support groups, family meals and volunteer training. Monitor program outcomes, recommend improvements and innovations. Lead fundraising efforts, including individual donors, corporate sponsorships, grants, foundations, events and other revenue‑generating strategies. Oversee daily operations, volunteer coordination/training and staff management. Maintain policies and procedures related to safety, confidentiality, background checks and volunteer training standards. Serve as the key liaison to the Board, providing timely information, preparing reports and supporting board development. Strengthen and expand relationships with community partners such as schools, mental‑health agencies, faith and community groups, and donors. Represent Oak Tree Corner publicly at community events, conferences, media opportunities and speaking engagements. Lead marketing and communications, including website, social media and newsletters. Ensure compliance with state and federal nonprofit regulations, maintain 501(c)(3) status, and manage risk including child‑protection protocols and data privacy. Qualifications & Skills Required Commitment to the mission of Oak Tree Corner, supporting grieving children, teens and families. Excellent interpersonal, communication and public‑speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Experience working with or in programs serving children/adolescents; knowledge of volunteer‑led peer support groups is a plus. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, lead a small team and engage volunteers effectively. Preferred Experience in grief support, bereavement services, youth programming or behavioral health. Comfort working in a hands‑on operational environment. Competence in digital marketing/communications and social media. Success Metrics / Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Maintain or increase annual revenue/donor support year‑over‑year. Expand volunteer base, enhance training and retention. Strengthen partnerships with community organizations and increase referrals. Improve operational efficiencies, system and process maturity (on‑boarding, reporting, scheduling). Enhance visibility and brand awareness of Oak Tree Corner in the Miami Valley region.
