The EHS Specialist assists in overseeing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities across multiple manufacturing plants and offices in North America. The role involves ensuring compliance with EHS policies and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Responsibilities include conducting safety inspections, training employees, and ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and standards. The EHS Specialist also supports manufacturing leadership teams and other stakeholders in executing EHS initiatives effectively.
Duties:

Policy Development & Compliance: Develop, implement, and monitor EHS policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, ADA, and state-specific safety codes). Stay current with safety and health regulations and standards.
EHS Management System: Update and instruct stakeholders on the EHS management system, including tracking, reporting processes, and training programs for managers and associates.
Risk & Hazard Inspections: Conduct regular on-site inspections to identify risks and hazards, determine countermeasures, and prepare detailed reports. Assist leadership with recommendations.
Incident Investigation: Lead accident and near-miss investigations, evaluate root causes, and report corrective actions. Ensure prompt corrective action for identified risks or hazards and observed unsafe acts.
Reporting: Communicate safety and environmental concerns to top management regularly.
Environmental Initiatives: Support environmental initiatives, including waste, water, CO2, air management, and resource efficiency improvements to meet company and customer requirements/targets.
Accident/Incident Reduction: Develop and integrate proactive accident/incident reduction activities such as ergonomic reviews and Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) initiatives.
Emergency Response: Assist in creating and implementing emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct regular drills and training.
ISO 14001 Support: Assist with ISO 14001 certification processes, compliance, auditing, and training.
Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training sessions, incident reports, and compliance activities.
Safety Equipment Oversight: Ensure maintenance and proper use of safety equipment and PPE. Verify availability and functionality of safety gear.
Team Participation: Participate in or lead project teams, safety committees, and related initiatives. Direct cross-functional project work as needed.
Health/Safety Programs: Develop and conduct health/safety programs related to employee wellness with Human Resources.
Training Coordination: Coordinate and administer First Responder and PPE training and compliance verification.

Experience:

Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Environment, Health & Safety or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: One to three years of EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of federal laws, environmental standards, compliance reporting, and safety and health regulations.
Certification: Professional certification (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)) preferred.
