Job Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12 Hour Variable
Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours per Week
Experience: Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience excluding travel experience preferred
License: Registered Nurse license approved by the board of nursing
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS required; CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred
Must-Have: Experience with all patient types listed below
Job Description:
- Manage a high-volume emergency department with up to 180 patients seen daily.
- Provide care in a facility with 33 main ED beds, including trauma, resuscitation, and behavioral health rooms.
- Handle cases ranging from minor to critical, including but not limited to, sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, and gastrointestinal bleeds.
- Work in a Level 2 trauma center with a high trauma patient load, especially during summer.
- Care for stroke patients with symptoms up to 24 hours.
- Perform sexual assault evidence collection as part of a rotation with staff, without conducting pelvic exams.
- Support pediatric intensive care for critically ill children.
- Assist in cardiac patient care with access to a cardiac catheter lab.
- Conduct ESI assessments during triage to prioritize patient care.
- Maintain patient ratios for RN (1:4-5) and LPN (1:4-5).
- Support provided by ED techs, charge nurse, and 24/7 physician and NP coverage.
- Utilize the EPIC charting system, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment.
- Potential floating to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas as a task nurse.
- Attend orientation including 8 hours facility introduction, 4 hours ED-specific education, and a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit.
- Variable shift scheduling to fill gaps in permanent staff schedules.
- Holiday work as needed, with manager approval required for time off.
