**Job Title:** Surgical Technologist

**Shift:** 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM; On-call required: 4 times per month (2 weekdays and 2 weekends); No weekends required unless specified as needed

**Certifications:** Preferred certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)

**Must-Have:** Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program

**Job Description:**

- Responsible for cleaning and handling instruments following standard policies while maintaining updated records.
- Follow policy in standardization of set-ups and utilization of surgeon preferences, assuming responsibility for the care and proper handling of instruments by organizing all instrumentation before returning to the decontamination room and returning all clean supplies to designated areas.
- Maintain count of sponges, needles, instruments, and administer and label medications according to established policy.
- Handle specimens according to Operating Room Policy and Procedures.
- Control contamination and provide for decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
- Remove used equipment and properly dispose of contaminated needles and syringes at the end of procedures.
- Participate in team conferences to plan care, evaluate the effectiveness of patient care, and assist the circulator in revising the plan of care.
- Maintain proficiency in Surgical Technologist skills by updating a checklist for equipment and cases, circulating, or scrubbing when rotated through specialty areas.
- Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 400 lbs., and standing for the entire shift.
- Identify the needs of the patient population served and modify and deliver care that is specific to those needs, including communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregivers at their developmental/age, educational, literacy level, etc.
- Adhere to the standards identified in the organization's competencies.
- Must be highly reliable and available to work all days except those pre-disclosed prior to offer; no alternative jobs should interfere with the priority schedule.
