**Job Description:**

- Promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring the efficient flow of the Sterile Processing department.
- Perform routine tasks related to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
- Responsible for the general operation and monitoring of sterilization equipment.
- Maintain records in compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the importance of patient safety in the OR.
- Facilitate the department's preparation for staff to pass survey/regulatory assessments.
- Sterilize supplies and instruments using prescribed methods such as steam or gas plasma (Sterrad).
- Operate washer/decontaminator according to department policy and procedure.
- Understand the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how items to be sterilized should be packaged to ensure successful sterilization.
- Follow manufacturer's recommendations (IFU's).
- Ensure cleanliness of decontamination, sterilization, and equipment areas.
- Validate the proper functioning of all equipment using established mechanical and biological monitors.
- Ensure that sterilized supplies and instruments are labeled and stored correctly to guarantee sterility according to regulatory guidelines.
- Uphold all quality, infection prevention, regulatory, and standards at all times.
- Demonstrate technical skills needed to establish and maintain High-Level Disinfection (HLD) processes.
- Utilize features of computerized tray/instrument tracking system, if applicable.
- Apply knowledge of the dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Report any life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor.
- Develop awareness and understanding of patient safety in the OR.
- Maintain a customer-friendly rapport with peers and internal/external customers.
- Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
- Ensure records reflect work activity as prescribed by department policy.
- Assist in transporting sterilized instrumentation to operating rooms as needed.
- Verify that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day, call, or weekend cases.
- Assist in removing soiled case carts or un-sterile instrumentation from the operating room department.
- Respond to problem calls from Surgery during regular business hours.
- Floating may be required to any location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment or identified float zone.
- Float assignments may include duties outside the original job requirements (including skill set) in accordance with policy.
