**Description:**
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process. Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs, attends education programs, and assesses patient readiness to learn. Identifies expected patient outcomes, communicates relevant information for continuity of care, and evaluates care. Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, prioritizes care according to patient needs, and utilizes healthcare organizational standards. Develops goals for professional growth, achieves goals within identified time frames, and promotes intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Recognizes data to determine care priorities, anticipates discharge needs, and collaborates with patients/families to update the plan of care. Reads relevant journals and brings ideas to the staff for assessment. Ratio is 1:3 in a 13-bed Cardiac and Oncology progressive care unit caring for adult patients with complications related to heart failure or cancer.
