*Employment Type:* Full time *Shift:* Day Shift *Description:* *Position Summary:*Works independently and collaboratively with members of the perinatal healthcare team to provide services to breastfeeding families. Provides Breastfeeding Support Services to patients, nursing staff, community and physicians. Functions as a member of the Prenatal Education Services Team. *What the lactation consultant will need:** Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) * Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Michigan. * Certified by the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP) as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) * Certification through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC) preferred. If not IBCLC, must become IBCLC within two years. * Registered Nurse with three years’ experience in a perinatal services. * Demonstrated clinical expertise, professional judgment and advanced knowledge about human lactation. *What the lactation consultant will do:** Develops, implements and evaluates breastfeeding educational programs for patients and families, prenatally and postpartum.* Provides breastfeeding assessment, support and counseling to inpatients and outpatients* Provides ongoing education and training for Birth Center staff and physicians, including competency validation, orientation of new employees, and basic and advanced in-services.* Collaborates with Birth Center staff and leadership to develop, implement and update, as needed, standards of care related to breastfeeding. Also collaborates to develop and/or update policies, procedures, protocols, documentation and clinical pathways that promote excellence in breastfeeding management.* Collaborates with pharmacists, physicians and their offices, and community agencies, to ensure and promote availability and knowledge of breastfeeding resources in the community*Our Commitment *Rooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
